Manuscript Submission Guidelines

The Annals of Saint Anne provides practical direction for adult Catholics in our changing world. We seek to publish practical articles that educate and inform our readership in language that is easy to understand.

We also look for articles that inspire and motivate Catholics to live Catholic, spiritual lives. Articles should have a concrete application in our readers’ lives. Real life examples and stories help make this application. Fiction is also appropriate for a Catholic audience, but the article must have a moral and spiritual content that respects Catholic doctrine.

General information

The purpose of The Annals of Saint Anne is to effectively communicate the word of God in the Catholic Tradition by growing and expanding our outreach to Catholics of all ages through print and electronic media. Since the very first publication of The Annals of Saint Anne, our aim was to lead Catholic families toward a deeper union with God through prayer, communion with one another, and a joyful practice of their faith.

As a rule, The Annals of Saint Anne does not accept the following unsolicited material:

  • Fiction
  • Poetry
  • Biography
  • Autobiography
  • Private revelations

Submitting your Manuscript

If you are submitting a manuscript for the first time, please send us your Curriculum Vitae describing your previous work as a writer or journalist. A sample of your previous writing skill may be included (but should not exceed 2 pages unless we ask for another sample) along with the manuscript you wish to publish. Please join the following in your proposal:

  • The title of the article
  • The anticipated manuscript length (one page: 550 words; two pages: 1000 words)
  • Your suggestions for the choice of a picture or illustration

Be sure to include your complete name, address, phone and/or fax number, and e-mail address. The editing committee will acknowledge your proposal as soon as possible. Please do not send additional material unless it is requested. In the event your manuscript is not accepted, if you want us to return it you, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

We do not review proposals or manuscripts that are simultaneously being submitted to other publishers, nor do we accept responsibility for lost or unsolicited manuscripts.

After your Manuscript is Accepted

If your manuscript is accepted, we will give you a deadline for completing it and sending it to us. Please notify your editor as soon as possible of any necessary delays or changes in this deadline. Failure to meet your deadlines will delay, and may even prevent, the publication of your work.

Authors are responsible for securing written permission from the original publisher(s) of copyrighted material (including quotes and illustrations) used in their manuscripts. Permission must include electronic and print rights, and a copy of that written permission must be submitted with the manuscript. Generally speaking, authors are also responsible for any fees incurred for the use of copyrighted material.

If we ask you for illustrations or pictures, we will provide you with the specifications.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via e-mail attachment. Permission letter(s) should be sent by regular mail.

The Annals of Saint Anne will keep you informed of scheduling issues, give suggestions for possible improvements, discuss significant manuscript changes with you, and answer any reasonable questions about plans and progress related to your work.
